FIFA President Gianni Infantino has ruled out that Italy could replace Iran in the 2022 World Cup.

"Let's be serious, please," FIFA President Football Italia is quoted as saying.
Infantino said he "feels like crying" knowing the Azzurri will not be in Qatar as they will miss a second consecutive World Cup for the first time in history.
Earlier it was reported that FIFA may exclude Iran from the participants of the World Cup, because women in this country are not allowed to visit stadiums.

Recall that on March 25, the semi-final match of the selection for the 2022 World Cup between the national teams of Italy and North Macedonia took place. The confrontation ended with a score of 1:0 in favor of the Macedonians.

The Italian national team will miss the second World Cup in a row. In 2018, the Italians did not take part in the World Cup.

The Italian team can qualify for the 2022 World Cup! Will FIFA go for another ban?

The Italians can follow the path of the Danes to Euro 1992, and Azmun - not to go to Qatar.

The main sensation of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup was the departure of the reigning European champion - the Italian team. At first, they unexpectedly missed Switzerland ahead of themselves and finished second in Group C, going to the play-offs. There, in the first round in rivals, she received a modest North Macedonia. And unexpectedly failed, losing with a score of 0:1. Throughout the match, the Italians created dangerous chances, but the implementation failed. And in the stoppage time for the second half, they managed to concede. It became a national tragedy for the whole country. North Macedonia eventually lost to Portugal and was also left without Qatar, and a few days after their departure, it became known that the Italian team still has a chance to get to Qatar! True, nothing depends on the players themselves.
The Italians managed to despair, but the local media were actively talking about the possible participation of the national team in the World Cup. At first, Sport Mediaset and Sky Sport Italia indicated real chances to go to Qatar. And then the status edition of Football Italia confirmed the information. All because of the Iranian team.

What happened?

The story of a possible punishment for Iran began in 2019. At that time , FIFA had already warned Iran about possible punishment for human rights violations. - we are talking about a ban on women visiting the stadium. Then a young Iranian girl, who was tried for attending a football match, disguised herself as a man, committed an act of self-immolation near the courtroom, fearing to go to jail. After the women, for the first time in 40 years, they still visited the stadium in Iran. But it was not possible to avoid a relapse.

On March 29, the Iranian national team beat Lebanon (2:0). But the meeting was overshadowed by another scandal - and again because of women's rights. About two thousand women purchased tickets for the match. Security at first refused to let them into the stadium, and then used pepper spray to disperse the crowd. In fact, Iran continues to ignore the directive of FIFA .

After the match, Mehrdad Seradski, board member of the Iranian Football Federation, tweeted that he had heard "disturbing news from FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation". The most radical scenario could be the disqualification of the Iranian national team from the 2022 World Cup.

If the organization decides to take such a step, then the vacant place will be taken by the national team, which is located above all other contenders in the world ranking. And this is Italy, which is in sixth position.

Has this happened before?

A similar precedent in 1992: then the already selected Yugoslav national team was disqualified from the European Championship. UEFA has decided to ban the national team because of the war in the Balkans. The ticket went to the Danes, who gladly accepted such a gift of fate. The media often reported that football players were pulled out of vacations, but this was an exaggeration. Football players continued to play in the national championship, and the team was preparing to play a friendly match with the CIS.

The Danish national team took advantage of their chance. In the group with Sweden, France and England, she sensationally took second place. In the semi-final on penalties, they managed to beat the Netherlands (2:2, 5:4 on penalties). And in the decisive match, the Danes outplayed the formidable Germans, led by Berti Vogts, with a score of 2:0. It has become a national holiday for all of Denmark. True, the coach of the national team, Richard Möller-Nielsen, was never recognized as the coach of the year in his homeland. But he became the best coach in Europe according to the Association of European Sports Journalists and the best coach in the world according to World Soccer.

Iran has also been suspended by FIFA , but from qualification for the 1986 World Cup. Then the war with Iraq became the reason. In 2022, the national team runs the risk of being left without a World Cup again, although the 210th FIFA Congress has already passed, the issue was not raised at it. Apparently, FIFA is again giving Iran time to correct the situation.
